When Andrea died after 13 months of bulimic behaviors at the age of 19, Doris chose to leave her elementary classroom assignment. She worked for the next ten years (1999- Sept. 2009) as a Teacher on Special Assignment with Napa Valley Unified SD working with high school students in the areas of body image issues and eating disorder prevention. She is a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern and co-founded Andrea’s Voice Foundation. She is the author of the Gürze Books’ “Advice for Parent’s” blog and the critically acclaimed book, Andrea’s Voice: Silenced by Bulimia.
